A great pair of jeans is the glue that holds my wardrobe together; my go-to when I’m running late and don’t know what to wear, and one of the few pieces I own that’s perpetually in style. Considering that I’m utterly and entirely over the cold though, I’m already dreaming up fresh ways to style this closet mainstay as I (impatiently) wait for spring to rear its head.
Lucky for me, my quest to find new inspo is shaping up to be much easier than anticipated, thanks to this year’s volume of denim-centered headlines—from Alix Earle’s Frame skinnies to Kendrick Lamar’s Celine bell-bottoms. Though you could never go wrong with jeans and a tee, 2025’s nostalgia-heavy influence has me thinking outside of the realm of my basic, routine combos. With an updated mix of cool, lightweight outerwear and edgy, reimagined layers, I’ve found that my usual hankering to fast forward to spring has subsided—for now, at least.
In the mood to switch things up for yourself? Read on for nine fresh ways I’m styling denim in the wake of transitioning to warmer days ahead.
1. With Denim on Top
A jean-styling conversation isn’t complete without a mention of the classic Canadian tuxedo. Although it seems pretty straightforward, it makes for a great base to make it your own with the help of accessories. Personally, I’d complete this look with a pair of leopard kitten heels and a statement belt.
2. With a Button-Down Layered Over a Tee
Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever layered a button down over a tee and not left it unbuttoned so seeing the photo above is kinda leaving me a bit shell-shocked at the moment. The idea is simple, really, but what a difference a few buttons and a small tuck can make. Complete the look with statement jewelry, and I think this may very well be my new everyday uniform.
3. With Loafers and a Cropped Trench

Those closest to me—yes, even my boss—know that I’ve been drooling over a cropped trench (one in particular) for the last several weeks and if you needed proof as to why, well, I’d say this photo is all you need. The shortened version still reads as your classic trench, but with a bit more edginess and versatility. And let’s be honest: Sometimes I don’t want to cover up my jeans entirely with the full-length version.
4. With Kitten Heels and an Oversized Blazer
Headed out to an event or prepping for a casual Friday at the office? Swap your trousers for a pair of jeans. While most people style denim informally, you can maximize denim’s potential and opt to style them a bit more dressed up. One of my favorite ways to wear jeans is juxtaposed with a heel and a blazer.
5. With a Tonal Base and Statement Coat

One standing rule I live by: Never, ever, stow away your white jeans. Forget what they said about not wearing white after Labor Day because trust me, wearing white jeans in the dead of winter is about the chicest move you can make—especially when paired with an opposing-colored coat.
6. With a Hoodie and Blazer
You don’t have to be in my line of work to know that jeans and a hoodie make sense together, but adding a blazer? There’s something that doesn’t immediately come to mind. When styled with a luxe shoe, this is one insanely chic, harmonious look.
7. With a Lady Jacket and Coordinating Accessories

Though you can style this look with just about any lady jacket, it’s the leather version that really makes a splash. Whether yours is faux leather or not, it all boils down to the details: an oversized bag, a patent-leather pump, aviator sunnies—anything that signals less Jackie O. and more Paige Desorbo.
8. With a Fur Coat and Everyday Sneakers
Another item I can’t live without this season: a fur coat. The reason is pretty self-explanatory, I feel, but no matter how basic or boring my look is underneath, you’d never realize it with my two-sizes-too-big faux-fur coat on top. Throw on it with something as simple as a baby tee and cuffed jeans, and you’ll still be fielding the usual amount of compliments, if not more.
9. With a Long Trench and Top-Handle Bag

You don’t have to own a Birkin to own a quality, affordable top-handle bag. My grey Birkin look-a-like was under $500, and has helped to elevate a slew of casual, run-of-the-mill looks this season. Pair with your go-to jeans and a longline top coat for easy, effortless style.
