Building confidence through Creative Arts

In his latest Teacher video Greg Whitby speaks to Brad Carroll, from St Mary MacKillop Primary in Penrith South, New South Wales, about the school's Stage 2 Strings program.

Starting in Year 3, every student gets the opportunity to play a violin, viola, double bass or cello.

Carroll says, aside from students learning music skills, there are other benefits. ‘The way that Creative Arts is and using these string instruments … it's building confidence in the kids.

‘I think everybody can do [a program like] this, you just need a classroom practitioner and you need someone who is passionate. … Back in 2013, I'd never touched any of those stringed instruments – so the professional learning for me, it started straight away.'
